In January 2019, former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, made one of the most memorable statements in Nigeria's recent political history. While welcoming defectors into the ruling party, he declared that once they joined the APC, all their “sins” were forgiven. Although many dismissed it then as political rhetoric, events over the years have given the statement a more disturbing relevance reinforced by the nature of corruption and political migration in Nigeria.
