The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) recently ordered telecommunications providers to compensate customers for poor quality services covering periods of verified service failures between November 2025 and January 2026. In today’s digital age, where every byte of data and every month of digital television subscription costs hard-earned money, consumers are increasingly realising that they are victims of exploitative practices from the networks and service providers they rely on. The problem is often hidden behind terms like “validity periods” and “subscription cycles,” but its effects are painfully obvious in the wallets of millions. What makes the issue more troubling is that many Nigerians have gradually accepted these practices as normal.
