Flutterwave, Africa’s most valuable fintech unicorn, announced on April 2, 2026, that it had secured a banking licence from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Banking analysts say that the licence technically allows Flutterwave to establish national microfinance bank operations to hold customer deposits, open accounts, settle transactions internally and advance credits to customers within regulatory limits.
